Just a reminder about the upcoming rowing event on June 22, 2013. The Albany Rowing Center and CrossFit Beyond will be hosting this FREE event! Yes that's correct...it's free!!! No excuses!!! Sign up for it today under the events section of our Facebook page or through CrossFit Beyond and Albany Rowing Center member, Heather Evans. Heather can be contacted at email@example.com. Here are all of the event details:
Registration begins at 8:00am
Event begins at 8:30am
Registration at the Corning Preserve Boat Launch
1. 500 on the Water 'race'
2. Rowing inspired WOD
3. Pot Luck Lunch
For the rowing portion of the event, please be prepared with the following:
1. Old shoes
2. Socks (Trust me, bring socks!)
3. No loose shirts or pants/shorts. (Think erg, the seats roll!)
4. No necklaces, bracelets and I recommend no rings.
(Word of caution, do nor bring or wear anything 'nice' or of value in the boat. Items will either be left on the dock or in a small compartment in the boat. Either way, it is dirty!)
For the CrossFit portion of the event, please be prepared with the following:
1. Proper footwear (sneakers)
2. Water bottle
3. Sweat Towel
Here is a little information about the Albany Rowing Center:
The Albany Rowing Center is located on the Hudson River at the base of the Corning
Preserve. ARC offers recreational and competitive rowing opportunities for
adults and youth. The on the water rowing seasons run from April through
October. ARC's adult competitive team has brought home medals from national and
international regattas and our junior program has found success on the national
level as well. Many of our youth have received scholarships and move on to
compete on the college level. But mostly, ARC is committed to providing the
Capital District opportunities to experience the sport of rowing at all levels
and for all ages.

Very exciting news! CrossFit Beyond has purchased a Mini Polaroid Camera! So what does this mean? It means that I will be creating a CrossFit Beyond Members Photo Board! Starting with the members participating in the Memorial Day 'Murph' WOD this coming Monday. So, come camera ready because I will be snapping your photo before the workout, or after if you prefer the sweaty, tired, just had an intense work out look! As for the members who are unable to make it on Monday, Joy and I will also be taking photos at regular class times. We will be doing this until we have a nice, smiling picture of every CrossFit Beyond Member.
This will be a nice way to visually see all of our members! Keep an eye out for the completed photo board, which will be going up in the space above the water fountain.

Braydon Christopher Orth
Congratulations to the Orth Family we have another CrossFitter!!
Heather has been pregnant through 2 children now and has never stopped!!
Friday of this past week she was snatching 65#, deadlifting and doing step ups...... Saturday she gave birth, strong and healthy!!!!
CrossFit prepares you for everything!
Since her start with CrossFit Beyond almost 3 years ago at Siena College she has brought in her son, Tyson, (awesome deadlifts and squats) her Mom, Deb, and on-and-off awesome husband Chris.
We are thrilled to have Braydon into our family. I'm sure he will be on the sidelines watching with his brother very soon!!
Heather's only regret, (seriously) is that she is going to miss tommorrow's MURPH!
When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit?

I started doing crossfit on March 2. I weighed 302lbs, I had high blood pressure and some other issues related to my weight and unhealthy lifestyle. I also play music and had a less than flattering photo shoot at a radio show we did that was made very public. I needed to change and needed something different. My good friend Tony had been doing crossfit for 6 months and looked incredible. I wanted that, so I came for the Ramp-up class and free week and haven't left since.
What fitness activities were you doing before?
I did the gym thing. I would be really good for a few weeks and then back to the same ole same. It was a vicious cycle. I would mainly do cardio and weight training. I would get bored and start to hate being there by myself with no moral support or real encouragement. Also I would be there for 2 hours in a clip sometimes so it was taking up so much of my life.
What results have you seen since you joined CrossFit Beyond?
I have lost 40lbs so far. My blood pressure is normal and even stopped taking some daily meds now. My clothes are falling off of me and I genuinely feel better about myself and self image.
What do you like most about CF?
What I like most about Crossfit is the community feel. Everyone is so nice and encouraging. I have met some really great people here. No one ever judged me for being heavy when I started or when I couldn't do some of the things in the WODs. I always got the right kind of push when I needed it most, weather it was from a trainer or a peer. I also like the challenge of mind versus body....can I push myself further than I did yesterday.
What is your favorite CF exercise?
Kettle bells....they are just fun and with the music blasting behind you, you just get into this groove.
Your least favorite?
Toes to bar, or in my case flailing about on the bar attempting to do knees to elbows with my belly hanging out. Yeah it's a good time for me lol.
What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of?
That I stuck with it and that I'm completing most of the WODs now. When I started I was doing sometimes less than half of everyone else. I just kept pushing and finally one day I wasn't the last to finish and completed everything. That was an amazing feeling.
What CF goal are you working towards?
To keep showing up and pushing harder than the day before. To adopt a healthier lifestyle. I want to have one of those crazy before and after photos that make people say "WOW". Now that I got the standard stuff down I also want to start journaling and tracking the progress and times of my WODs.
