What is Mayhem in the Meadowlands you ask??



This coming Saturday May 3rd, Mayhem in the Meadowlands is holding their 2nd annual CrossFit competition at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. It’s a team competition, comprised of 3 people. The teams can be all girls, boys, or co-ed! There are scaled and Rx divisions.

CrossFit Beyond has several members who will be competing at this exciting event. If you are interested in going and being a spectator to cheer on our members, sign up on the sheet near the whiteboard and contact one of the participating members for additional details on car pooling down to the event.

Gabby, Morgan, and Alberta are competing together as a team, and are all first time competitors at Mayhem. Gabby said "I was a spectator last year, and that is what influenced me to go this year and rock it out."

Our trainer Ben is also competing at Mayhen for the first time! He is teaming up with Anthony from CrossFit Shatter and Pat Hogan from a CrossFit box in Boston.

Alberta said, "I think all the WODs look fun and I'm just excited to put all our hard work the past few months to the test!"

Ben said that he is looking forward to the sandbag/stair WOD the most.

Spotlight Athlete-Brian!!

This week's Spotlight Athlete is Brian! He attends classes at all different times! You might catch him early in the morning, at a noon class, or even later in the afternoon at a 4pm class. Read on to learn more about Brian's story!


When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit? 
In February 2012 Joe Chromczak invited me to an Albany Police Department Lieutenant John Finn memorial WOD, from that point on I was hooked.

What fitness activities were you doing before? 

Prior to Crossfit I was a runner.  I was doing very little cross/weight training.

What results have you seen since you joined CrossFit Beyond? 

I’ve definitely noticed an increase in my strength and overall wellness.  I have also noticed an increased level of endurance when I’m skiing, hiking or adventure running.

What do you like most about CF? 

I like the “unknown”.  When you walk into the Box, look at the board and say, “this is gonna suck”.  So you weigh your options…walk out and hopefully no one will notice (NOT A REAL OPTION) or you embrace the SUCK and leave with a sense of accomplishment, eager to return for more.

What is your favorite CF exercise? 

I like Thrusters,Burpees and Wall-Balls.!

Your least favorite? 

I dislike double-unders.

What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of? 

Since I started CrossFit I’ve endured two surgeries (Non-Crossfit related).  CrossFit has strengthened me and my ability to rebound so quickly as a result of my level of fitness, makes me proud.

What CF goal are you working towards?

I want to be a well rounded athlete and remain injury free.

Beginning this Saturday May 3rd, CrossFit Beyond will begin holding on- ramp classes on the first Saturday of every month. The classes are from 11-2pm.

The 3 Hour On-Ramp Saturday class is $35.
A one-on-one private session is $50.

Reminder: Capital Region Rumble Tomorrow!!

CrossFit Beyond hosted the first Capital Region Rumble in December, Feral CrossFit hosted the 2nd one in January, Collar City CrossFit hosted the third one in February, and CrossFit Aevitas hosted the fourth one in March. The 5th Rumble will be hosted at Albany CrossFit on April 26th! Albany CrossFit, located in Colonie, on Sand Creek Road, will be hosting the Capital Region Rumble on Saturday, April 26th at 11:30am. The Rumble is open to competitors and CrossFit coaches. Sign up to participate, or come and cheer our CrossFit Beyond members on as they compete against other local CrossFit boxes!
