When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit?
I first started CrossFit in January 2014. I had watched the CrossFit Games on TV before, and knew that I needed to try it. I started competing in obstacle course racing, and my cousin who is a CrossFit Coach down in Virginia told me that CrossFit would help with my training for races.
What fitness activities were you doing before?
I played field hockey in college. After my senior season I was pretty worn out and had a few injuries, so I became pretty lazy. I tried going to the gym, ran a half marathon, and then eventually got into obstacle course racing.
What results have you seen since you joined CrossFit Beyond?
Overall I am much stronger. I’ve noticed I’ve lost fat and my muscles are more toned. I’ve also gained more confidence in myself. I’ve seen a dramatic improvement during my obstacle course races. I can do all the obstacles without help now, and don’t fail at many. When I started, I was in the top 30% of my age category, now I am in the top 3%, finishing 16th out of 501 at my last race.
What do you like most about CF?
As a former athlete the toughest part of exercising was coming up with a workout on my own since I was so used to being told what to do. I like that the workouts are already made and that they are varied, it keeps me interested. I like that the workouts push me out of my comfort zone. Last but not least, I love the atmosphere of CF, everyone is so positive and motivating. I look forward to coming every day.
What is your favorite CF exercise?
Deadlifts, back squats, GHDs, running, jumping rope, & kettlebell swings
Your least favorite?
Snatches, Wall Balls, Thrusters, Overhead squats...overhead movements make me nervous.
What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of?
I’m finally able to do pull ups, and I learned to climb the rope. Also Rxing my first workout.
What CF goal are you working towards?
I’d like to join the 300 club for deadlifts, begin Rxing more workouts, and compete in CrossFit
