Spotlight Athlete-Michelle!

This week's spotlight athlete is Michelle! Michelle is typically a morning class attendee. She started doing CrossFit just six week after having her first child, and she is expecting her second child in March! Read on to learn more about Michelle's super inspiring story!

When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit?

I started doing crossfit in September 1,2013.  I had just had a baby six weeks before.  As soon as I was cleared to work out, I joined Crossfit Beyond.  My husband Marc had joined a few months before and loved it.  All he did was talk about how it changed his concept about working out and all the results he saw.  He actually made me join.  I was very intimidated by Crossfit.  I went to Joy's nutrition night, while I was pregnant, and some people were still working out.  I just didn't get how you got such a great work out, without all the normal gym equipment, and it kind of looked like torture to me.  I gained a lot of weight with my pregnancy and knew I had to do something.  So, I gave it a try.

What fitness activities were you doing before?

Before doing Crossfit, I worked out doing free weights and the weight machines at the gym, and I also took aerobics classes.  I used to love step aerobics.  I also practiced yoga and taught yoga up until I was 7 months pregnant.  When I was pregnant, I really became a slacker when it came to my work outs.  I did walk a lot and practice yoga while I was pregnant, but I had the idea in my head that it wasn't good to lift weights while pregnant, and that I needed to eat bagels everyday.  That didn't do me any good.

What results have you seen since you joined CrossFit Beyond?

Since joining crossfit, I have become much stronger. I lost all but 10 pounds of my baby weight.  Now, I'm pregnant again so I'm gaining some back. Overall,  I feel more fit.

What do you like most about CF?

I love the CrossFit community.  It really feels like a family.  I love that my baby Marshall has gone with Marc and I since he was 6 weeks old.  Everyone I have met there has been super supportive and encouraging.  I like how I just have to show up, and the work out is different every day.

What is your favorite CF exercise?

My favorite exercise is probably Clean and jerks and dead lifts.

Your least favorite?

My least favorite exercises are burpees and snatches.  I'm not very good at snatches.

What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of?

I am proud of myself for overcoming my fear of box jumps. Also, when I first started I think I could dead lift 85#, and now I can dead lift 155#.  I think just overall, when I'm consistent at going to CrossFit, I can tell all around how I am getting stronger.

What CF goal are you working towards?

Right now my biggest goal is to get my butt there consistently.   I have lots of great excuses, but none of them are really good. because I feel better when I work out.  My goal is to stay as fit as I can during this pregnancy and to get right back into shape after my baby is born.  I would also like to get better at snatches.
