This month's Spotlight Athlete is Alexis! Alexis is no stranger to fitness. She was an athlete all throughout high school and college but CrossFit has helped her to achieve some major fitness goals in her life and has created some incredible friendships for her along the way. Check out her story below!

1. Tell us about yourself

I’m 26 - from Plattsburgh and moved to Albany 4.5 years ago to get my Masters in Social Work. Currently working on an initiative that focuses on behavioral health advocacy in the Capital Region.

2. When/why did you first start doing crossfit?
I joined Crossfit Beyond in 2015 thanks to Alyssa convincing me to join! I really joined because in 2014 I attempted completing a full marathon in Memphis for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and failed at mile 19. I was determined to get stronger, have better nutrition and complete the marathon. In 2016 I signed up for the Memphis Marathon again and in December of 2016 I finished the marathon AND met my fundraising goal of $2,500!

3. What fitness activities were you doing before?
Before I joined Crossfit I was running and doing HIIT classes like body pump and body combat. I also ran track in college and in high school I did gymnastics, basketball and track and field.

4. What results have you seen since you joined CF?
Since joining crossfit and with the extreme help of Broccoli Klub, I have been able to see an increase in muscle definition and decrease in body fat. My strength has increased dramatically since I've started. I’ve also been feeling much more confident about myself when I’m able to surprise myself and do movements I never thought I’d be able to do! Crossfit has changed my life dramatically and for the absolute best.

5. What do you like most about CFB?
I love the gymnastics components of crossfit especially being a former gymnast. Anything upside down is my favorite and I also love double unders and wall balls! But my absolute favorite is the friends I’ve made at the gym that have turned into family.

6. What is your favorite CF exercise/least favorite?
The snatch because it’s the most difficult and requires the most technique!

7. What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of?
I am most proud of being able to get stronger this year and consistently having the strength and skills to complete wods rx and sometimes even rx plus! It’s amazing to continue to get stronger and surprise myself with what I can do.

8. What CF goal(s) are you working towards? How close are you to reaching them?
My goals are currently muscle ups (both bar and ring) as well as working towards strength goals such as a 300lb deadlift. I am 15lbs away from a 300lb deadlift and I have a lot of practice and skill work to go for muscle ups.

9. If you could create a word what would it look like?
My wod would be cardio intense and likely a chipper (multiple movements with high reps :) ) - likely squats/double unders/mountain climbers/sit ups/push ups/pull ups- with some type of a handstand/inverted movement for an after party.
