"I feel the strongest I have ever been, both physically and mentally."

This month's Spotlight Athlete is Lauren! Lauren has been at CrossFit Beyond for just over two years. She initially decided to join after her dad- long time member, and coach -Mark, finally convinced her to give CrossFit a try! She has been hooked ever since! Check out her story below!

1. Tell us about yourself.

I am originally from the Albany area, went to Penn State for my undergrad, and returned back to the Albany area to attend graduate school. I currently work at Albany Medical Center in the Neurosciences-Stroke Department.

2.When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in November 2015 after my Dad (Mark), finally convinced me to go to the on-ramp and try it for a month. Needless to say I haven't looked back! At that point in my life, I was having a difficult time prioritizing my fitness routine and wanted to try something different. CrossFit had the structured programming that I had been missing.

3.What fitness activities were you doing before?

Hot Yoga, Barre and Running.

4.What results have you seen since you joined CF?

I feel the strongest I have ever been, both physically and mentally. I feel my overall fitness has improved and it has been honestly one of the best stress relievers after a busy day.

5.What do you like most about CrossFit Beyond?

I love the variety of programming and just as important, I love the community aspect of the gym--CrossFit Beyond is my second family.

6.What is your favorite CF exercise? /Your least favorite?

My favorite would be power cleans! Least favorite back/front squats.

7.What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of?

Right now I would say I am proud of finally reaching a 200 lb deadlift. After being stuck at a plateau for a while, I was pumped to hit 200 lbs for 3 reps.

8.What CF goal(s) are you working towards? How close are you to reaching them?

Right now I am working towards performing more WODs Rx--slowly, but surely I am getting there. This past summer I started working with the Broccoli Klub to dial in on the nutrition aspect of my performance. I continue to see progress with my endurance and strength because of this, and can't wait to see what 2018 brings!

9.If you could create a WOD what would it look like?

Definitely something with power cleans, pull ups, and rowing!
