Our Spotlight Athlete this month is Jennifer Demaurez! Jen is no stranger to CrossFit and has been involved with it on and off for several years while she traveled the world in the military. Check out her story below!
1.Tell us about yourself
I am originally from a small town about an hour from the Albany area. I served in the Air Force right after high school, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to serve my country while traveling all over the world. After the Air Force I joined the Air Guard while I went to college and grad school.
2.When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit?
I’ve been doing CrossFit on and off for years. I would stop, and by stop, I mean I would take rest days that lasted 5 months to a year (Worst idea, EVER, FYI).
Because I would move so often, CrossFit became a spot where I made the best friends of my life. Everyone was so vested in their health, fitness, and just wanted to have fun. It was contagious. When life wasn’t the easiest, I would have friends show up at my place, and drag me to my local box. It’s the people that really make CrossFit enjoyable, and they are what keep me coming back
3.What fitness activities were you doing before?
I've always been a runner. When I was in high school I did track and field.
4.What results have you seen since you joined CF?
I've seen great results in terms of my strength and overall fitness level, but more than that I've discovered that Crossfit has been an amazing way to keep my energy up all day and to deal with the everyday stressors of life.
5.What do you like most about CrossFit Beyond?
I love the community and the programming! Everyone here is so awesome and welcoming, and I love suffering through a really grueling chipper, with everyone!
6.What is your favorite CF exercise? /Your least favorite?
Favorite would have to be hang power clings and least favorite, the snatch movements.
7.What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of?
I’m so proud that I am starting to get a little faster each time I run. I love running, so it's great that it's starting to come back :)
8.What CF goal(s) are you working towards? How close are you to reaching them?
Just practicing more mobility. I have to force myself to stretch before and after the WOD. I would say it's something I neglect the most, and it's so beneficial when doing weight movements.
9.If you could create a WOD what would it look like?
Chipper Wods are always, "fun"
