Mobility Matters


Congratulations to both Joy and Shane Healy on receiving their CrossFit Movement and Mobility Certification this past weekend. If you've been at CrossFit Beyond this week, you have probably already participated in the "smashing" mobility technique and loved and hated every second of it! If you haven't had the opportunity to try this yet, you are in for a real treat! Mobility is something we have and will continue to practice at CrossFit Beyond...from the band stretches that we constantly do on our arms and legs, to the new techniques that we will be introduced to this week, and in weeks to come.

The CrossFit Movement and Mobility trainer course is based on the principles of coach, and physical therapist, Kelly Starrett's Movement and Mobility Method. According to Kelly, the purpose of actively engaging in these mobility techniques is to "resolve pain, prevent injury, and optimize athletic performance". The mobility course, " illuminates common movement errors that can cause injury and rob you of speed, power, endurance, and strength." Kelly theorizes that, " humans have been evolving for 2.5 millions years and the human body is extraordinarily engineered. While people are born with this incredible machine, they aren't born with the right software to run that machine. Mobility is designed to help you hack your body's mechanics and provide the tools to perform basic maintenance on yourself."
