Spotlight Athlete-Christian!!

This week's spotlight athlete is Christian! You will most often see him at the 6:oopm class. Read on to learn more about Christian's story!


When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit? 

I started CrossFit 2 years ago because my normal gym routine was becoming dull. I lifted weights, never did anything for legs and the winter months dragged endlessly until spring haplessly arrived, just in time for golf season and vitamin D replenishment. Crossfit became something to look forward to after a day of sitting in an office.

What fitness activities were you doing before? 

Basic weight lifting, occasional running

What results have you seen since you joined CrossFit Beyond? 

When I first joined Crossfit I was very concerned that I would lose weight. It is very hard for me to gain weight and keep any muscle on, but I am in way better shape now, and weigh the most I’ve weighed since starting to work out! Other results include: not getting winded going up stairs, my jeans getting tight in the seat, and an urge to take my shirt off while working out at Planet Fitness before I realize I can’t do that there.

What do you like most about CF? 

I love the variation and muscle confusion of the different workouts, but I think my favorite thing about Crossfit is how friendly and encouraging the Crossfit culture is. Coming from the regular gym setting with meatheads and “tough guys”, it’s nice to experience the sense of community that embodies Crossfit.

What is your favorite CF exercise? 

I’ve really enjoyed learning the movements I would’ve never tried in a regular gym, like, sumo deadlift high-pulls, squat cleans, clean and jerks, heavy deadlifts and kipping pull-ups. And, since it’s a crossfit approved movement, Benching!

Your least favorite? 

Overhead squats, toes to bar and pistols. It must be a mobility issue…

What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of? 

Bar muscle ups, occasionally being able to rattle off a few double unders, and conquering an irrational fear of hand stand push-ups

What CF goal are you working towards?

Double unders and getting better cardiovascularly
