This week's Spotlight Athlete is Ron! Ron is typically a night class attendee. Read on to learn more about Ron's story!
When/Why did you first start doing CrossFit?
I started doing CrossFit last September. Both Amy Roberts and Christian Summers who I have known for quite some time were giving me a lot of good information about Crossfit Beyond and how they really enjoyed working with Joy.
What fitness activities were you doing before?
I have been very active in sports my whole life. I have played Flag Football since 2002 but moved away from it last Fall because I was coaching my son in Little League and that is when I started doing Crossfit. In addition to Flag Football, I am an avid golfer and play basketball any chance I get.
What results have you seen since you joined CrossFit Beyond?
When I started Crossfit last year it was a very humbling experience, in that, I have always been very athletic but struggled withmany of the movements and techniques, i.e.-Pull Ups. Crossfit has enabled me to challenge myself each and every time out. I feel
both mentally and physically stronger as a result of being dedicated to wanting to improve and get better.
What do you like most about CF?
What I like most about CF is the atmosphere! It is a very laid back setting, everyone is willing to help and cheer each other on whether you know them well or not! Joy has created an environment that makes it easy to work within your comfort zone while working to improve and get better. I have never received that feeling or experienced that type of atmosphere at any gym I have ever been a member of.
What is your favorite CF exercise?
My favorite CF exercise is the deadlift.
What CF accomplishment are you currently most proud of?
The accomplishment that I am most proud of is just being disciplined to learn the correct way to do squats and cleans. Doing
those incorrectly could cause a major injury and I like how Joy wants to have her crew work towards getting the technique right
before adding weights.
What CF goal are you working towards?
My current deadlift PR is 380lbs and my goal is to reach 400lbs before the Summer is over.
